Our vision is crystal clear: we aim to improve and strengthen the quality of life in such areas as health, wellbeing, food and environment.
We can contribute to this goal by utilizing the enormous potential of microalgae, which are seen as one of Earth’s primordial lifeforms.
Our core values are embedded in the DNA of all our team members. These core values reflect our internal methods and our relationships with our partners.
We dare to dream big, because that is the only way to realize true change.
In Algae Growth’s state-of-the-art production facilities, we create the perfect growing conditions for optimal output. The result? Top-quality algae products that are rich in nutrients such as EPA (omega-3 fatty acid) and proteins.
Algae is an umbrella term for a large group of life forms. Algae are characterized by their ability to use photosynthesis. They are able to convert sunlight and CO₂ into nutrients and oxygen. A distinction is made between multi-celled macroalgae and single-celled microalgae. At Algae Capital, we exclusively work with microalgae.
The active components in microalgae have myriad applications in e.g. medicine, cosmetics, food, supplements, pet and animal feed, bioplastics and water purification. Microalgae contain a wide range of valuable nutrients, such as essential omega-3 fatty acids (EPA + DHA), proteins, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids.
Among other things, microalgae are rich in the omega-3 fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and in protein. There is evidence that DHA and EPA contribute a healthy heart and brain function. There is also evidence that omega-3 fatty acids help maintain good eyesight and immune system function.
Algae Capital is the parent company of: Algae Biotech, Algae Projects, Algae Growth and Algae Nutrition. All subsidiaries have their own specialties and responsibilities, while Algae Capital oversees and coordinates the shared interest. Visit the ‘Businesses’ page to learn more about each subsidiary.
Our first products are made from the species Nannochloropsis gaditana, because we have a strong belief in the future of this species. This species of microalgae is characterized by its exceptionally high eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) content. Depending on the market needs we can also grow other strains.
We cultivate the microalgae in our own laboratory. Next, the microalgae are transferred to closed tube-shaped glass photobioreactors filled with salt water and nutrients. In these glass photobioreactors, the microalgae can grow undisturbed with the help of CO₂ and light. After harvesting, the biomass is drained of water and dried to make algae powder. If required, the biomass is further extracted to produce EPA oil and protein powder.
